In my 20 years in Real Estate, I thought I’d witnessed, heard of, or been involved with every type of transaction glitch near Closing that there could possibly be.
Last Thursday, someone left a briefcase with a wire hanging out of it in the Thurston County Courthouse Campus. I also happened to have the sale of a house scheduled to Close that very same day. So naturally, between the Buyer’s Lender releasing the Escrow Company to Record the sale and the actual recording at the Courthouse, they evacuated the building thinking that the suspicious looking briefcase might be an explosive of some kind.
A few hours later, fortunately there was no ‘boom’. The brave people of the Washington State Patrol Bomb Squad had determined that there were no explosives in the briefcase. The Courthouse was reopened, and the Closing of my transaction got recorded. Yay!
Well, a new glitch has now been added to the list… One that I hope never happens again!
